OP-ED: WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOCIAL MEDIA? [pre-vi

Social media dictates the issues that Generation Z faces. Let's not deny the obvious one fact about this issue: social media exists. This isn't climate change that some people may deny (*cough* *cough*). The social domain of my generation revolves around followers, likes, and re-tweets. Let's face it: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat have completely revolutionized the human interaction.

If you have an opinion about social media, feel free to comment below your thoughts. Stay tune as I continue this series on the GENERATION Z.

Swimming or is it Swamming?

One of the goals of this blog is to help communicate my passions and hobbies to you guys! Hopefully, this blog will serve you as the reader to explore my world.

So, it's summer and you know what that means... TIME TO HIT THE POOL AND BEACH !

I truly love swimming, and it's something that helps me maintain health but also a healthy level of athletic competition. Keep on reading to follow my swimming journey.

At an early age, my parents understood the necessity for me to learn how to swim. Consequently, I spent my summers taking swim lessons at the YMCA. While I was far from being the best swimmer in my group, I continued to love splashing in the water and trailing behind the rest. I also had a great time jumping "pencil" style off the high diving board. Even though I am terrified of heights today, I am baffled at my audacity of jump off a flimsy foundation into an even deeper pool. Anyways, I learned how to swim and enjoyed my time at the beach as my parents laid slightly more in peace, knowing I could float above the water and tread.

Once my YMCA summer swim sessions ended, I simply continued to swim at my neighborhood, which seemed much larger at the time. While I was simply content on floating around in that rectangular pool, my body urged for water domination. I would race my neighborhood buddies and found myself adept, but I never joined a swim team until much later. There I was... a smiling Asian boy who could swim faster in freestyle. Of course, my dad would constantly push me to swim the dreaded laps. Those laps seemed like the entire ocean at the time. One length of the pool tired me out quickly, but I continued to refine my skills. Summer after summer as I went through elementary and middle school, I would continue my traditions: swim laps, race friends, repeat. Then, finally 8th grade hit and I was imagining myself on the high school swim team.

The summer before my freshman year of high school... my anxiety increased as I frantically practiced in the tiny neighborhood pool. I did not know what to expect for the "swim team tryouts" and I definitely had no experience being on a competitive swim team. I honestly did not know what to expect as I began to truly learn the other 3 strokes: breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke. I was on my own, yet I was excited for a new chapter in my life: "Swims...More"

I finally entered my freshman year, also nervous about the actual school life. Nonetheless, the announcement came for "those interested" in joining the swim team to have a meeting. I came and introduced myself as having no prior competitive swimming background but I swam an hour a day over the summer. Of course, deep down I knew I was depicting myself as more dedicated as I really was. Nonetheless, swimming shifted from being a hobby to an athletic endeavor I dedicated 1-2 hrs/day to. I showed up to the first early morning workout... completely unaware of what a bench press was.

The rest is history. I have been swimming competitively for only two years now, and they have been the best years of my life. I am a strong low-25 freestyler, and I have indeed broken the minute for the 100 free. I swim to live, and I live to swim.

Stay tuned,

Kenny

I'm here to give you some tips to having a successful project.

Tip #1:
Always start planning ahead and make sure you know the rules.
You dont want to start on your project and then a month later you find out you can't do it.

Tip#2:
Science Fairs are supposd to be fun and make sure just to have a little fun with your project.
Try making it something thats creative.
It's ok to use the idea from a website but make sure you add a part that is you.

Natural Bridge Caverns was AWESOME!

Natural Bridge Caverns is an awesome place to go to. It's in San Antonio. (Natural Bridge Caverns is rated A for awesomeness) I suggest if you have kids 7 and up, then this is a good place to go to. Any younger, I would't really recommend. You get to explore these awesome caves. If you don't believe its awesome, well.... takes it from me. I actually went with my family. It was one of the coolest things to see. This place is for the whole family. Kids will love it, parents will be amazed, and if you're an adventurer, then you can even explore the hidden places of the cave. At Natural Bridge Caverns, you can see these amazing rock formations underground. That has formed for millions of years. Below there it won’t be that cold; it is only 70 degrees (Fahrenheit). It is truly an amazing sight to see.

There are basically two caves. You can pick between 2 basic tours, The Discovery Tour or The Hidden Passages Tour. You can actually see both at a discounted price. If it is your first time and you want to take it slowly then I recommend the Discovery Tour,
but if it's your second time or if you feel a little challenge then I would totally recommend the Hidden Passages Tour. There is also this tour called “The Adventure Tours (8 and up) which is around a 3-4 hour tour. First you get lowered down into a shaft, then you get to climb around and discover the "hidden parts of the cave “I would recommend this if you have done this before or if you feel for an adventure. The Discovery Tour and Hidden Passages is about 70-75 minutes long.

There are much more in Natural Bridge Caverns so check it out on their website, http://www.naturalbridgecaverns.com/. So if you live in Texas, tell your parents to check out this place in San Antonio. Bring your family and friends down to Natural Bridge Caverns.
-Happy Exploring!
